LA Metro is planning a new bus route from North Hollywood to Pasadena that includes a dedicated bus lane on Glenoaks Boulevard between Alameda and Central. A dedicated lane is permanent—it removes a traffic lane entirely and is reserved only for buses.

But the consequences go beyond traffic.
In Sacramento, Governor Newsom and legislators passed SB 79, a bill that will mandate rezoning of all single-family neighborhoods within half a mile of any dedicated bus lane. This means the entire area between Alameda and Central, from Flower to Kenneth, will be rezoned to allow:
Every home in these neighborhoods will have a multi-story apartment complex built right next door—regardless of existing zoning or neighborhood character.
This is a home in Virginia where an owner constructed a three-story addition that blocked his neighbor's sunlight and privacy.
We can fight this three ways:

Ask them to negotiate with Metro to change the “dedicated bus lane" to a “mixed flow lane.” This would not take away a lane of traffic and would not trigger SB 79!

I am a concerned resident writing about the proposed dedicated bus lane on Glenoaks Boulevard between Lake and Central. Given that 92% of Glendale commuters drive to work and only 3.9% use public transit, removing a traffic lane will significantly increase congestion. Additionally, I am deeply concerned about SB 79, which would mandate rezoning all single-family neighborhoods within half a mile of dedicated bus lanes. I urge you to negotiate with Metro to implement a "mixed flow lane" instead. This would maintain traffic capacity and avoid triggering SB 79's rezoning requirements.
